On October 28, the first rail-sea intermodal international train in Qinghai Province successfully departed, establishing a new pathway for Qinghai’s goods to reach markets overseas. After completing customs procedures at the Xining Comprehensive Bonded Zone on the same day, the train, loaded with 1080.5 tons of PVC granules, left from Shuangzhai Railway Station in Huangzhong District of Xining and headed for Qingdao Port. These goods will be subsequently shipped to Thailand and Malaysia by sea.

“Traditional transportation would take around 45 days. The rail-sea intermodal solution allows for a one-stop service, saving approximately 10 days in transportation and reducing costs by nearly 15%,” said Bao Huizhang, the Customs Manager of Qinghai Yihua Chemical Co., Ltd., stated.

On January 16, 2022, the Xining Comprehensive Bonded Zone officially started operation, providing a new platform for Qinghai Province to integrate deeply into the “Belt and Road” initiative and expand its openness.

To ensure the smooth export of goods, Xining Customs has closely cooperated with the bonded zone, setting up a dedicated rail-sea intermodal channel. They have adopted a “divide-and-declare” approach, allowing for convenient monitoring of phased exports and single declarations, leveraging the advantages of the Xining Comprehensive Bonded Zone platform.
